Nutrex: Who is your favorite pro right now?
Zack: Phil Heath. He’s a nice guy. He’s a professional on stage and off stage. He’s a great guy.
Nutrex: Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Zack: In a wheelchair with a bad back taking pain killers the rest of my life. No...I’d like to see myself in the mix...on the Olympia stage and get in the top 5. That would be awesome.
Nutrex: Do you have a show picked out for next year?
Zack: Tampa, Europa, or something late August.
Nutrex: There are a few pros that have done really well coming right from the amateur level. Do you think you’ll be one of those guys?
Zack: August next year, watch the stage!
Nutrex: What’s your weight on and off season?
Zack: About 300 lbs off season and 275 lbs on stage.
Nutrex: Do you train weaker body parts earlier in the week? What’s your routine?
Zack: Not really. At the moment I start with what takes the most energy. So I train legs on Monday. I finish off with calves. Then Tuesday I will train chest. I will start with my weakest part which would be my upper chest. Then I’ll train my lower chest. And then finish off with abdominals. On Wednesday I’ll take a break. On Thursday I’ll train back. Focusing more on details I’ll do like close grip, T-bar, dumbbell rows, to work out more detail in the middle of the back. Then finish up with wide grip pull downs to get more of the outer lats. Then on Friday I will train my hamstrings. I can’t train my hamstrings with quads. I takes too much energy and effort. If I give quads 100% I can’t really train hard on hamstrings. That’s why I like to split them up. So I’ll train hamstrings with arms and then finish up with calves. And then on Saturday I will do my shoulders and finish up with biceps. I rest again on Sunday. I like to change up the exercises to keep shocking the body. The body is clever. It will adapt, so you need variation. Also it keeps you from getting bored. Same with food. I like to eat different proteins from eggs to chicken to beef to fish. And with my carbs I like to have oats, bread, potato oats, sweet potato oats. I like to vary my food. That way you don’t get bored.
Nutrex: Zack’s first appearance was at Nutrition Depot in Spring, TX. The crowd was awesome. The fans loved Zack. He talked with the fans, signed autographs and handed out Nutrex samples. The following day we hit two more Nutrition Depot locations in Webster and Houston. Then had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, Zack’s new favorite place. That boy can put down some bread. He wants to have it imported to the U.K. ‘cause it rocks! He had the Jamaican Black Pepper Shrimp. After lunch we headed to the mall to find Zack some jeans he could fit into. After turning a lot of heads and scaring the children he got supercharged with some HEMO-RAGE and NIOX and hit the weights for a shoulder workout.
The next day Zack traveled to Austin where he did some appearances, checked out the mall and hit Gold’s for a high repetition leg workout. Zack trained light during the tour because of the schedule. When asked about his pump style training for such a behemoth, Zack replied, “I can’t risk the injury. Once I get back to the UK I’ll get back into my regular routine, back to the heavy weights”.
